Education System
Type of Certification:
- Certificate/ Diploma/ UG Diploma Qualification: A programme, which is usually one to three years in duration, and is offered at colleges.
- Undergraduate/bachelor’s degrees qualification: A programme awarded by a university after four years of full-time study and leads to graduate level studies.
- Post Graduate Diploma / Graduate Certificate: One to two-year study after bachelor studies.
- Masters /Post Graduate degrees qualification: A pre-requisite to participate in graduate studies is an undergraduate / bachelor’s degree (4 years). It comprises of minimum two years of full-time studies based on either course work or thesis.
- Doctoral / Ph D qualification: A minimum of 2 to 5-year full time study under supervision that involves research.

Universities:
Canadian universities are largely public funded organisations.
They offer consistently high-quality education at lower tuition fee for international.
They offer a broad range of courses and degrees from undergraduate to doctorate and also few certificate and professional degrees.
University Colleges:
They offer students a choice of either more practical-oriented college diplomas and certificates or academic oriented university degree programmes.
They are distinguished by their strong campus environments, strong student support services and small classes.
They also offer diploma programmes/combined degree and university transfer programmes.
Community colleges and technical institutes:
More vocational-related curriculum is offered at these institutions. They have small size classes with off-campus course offerings. The interactive teaching style incorporating greater ratio of laboratory space to classroom space.
The uniqueness of Canadian colleges lies in the combination of employer-centred curriculum.
These institutes have the primary function of responding to the training needs of industry, business and public service sectors.
Most of these institutes offer diplomas and certificates rather than degrees.
Technical/ Career Colleges:
This is a privately owned and operated school.
The main objective of preparing students for the job market after a short period of instruction.
The emphasis at career colleges is on practical skills over a broad range of programmes.
They specialize in such areas as computers, business and secretarial skills.
These institutes are provincially approved and regulated, ensuring that programmes quality and standards are maintained.
Cost of Study
Tuition Fee:
Master’s degrees (Universities): 30,000- 35,000 CAD per annum
PG Diploma: 11, 000 – 18, 000 CAD per annum.
Bachelor’s Degrees (Universities): 25,000 – 30,000 CAD per annum.
Bachelor’s Degrees (Colleges): 20,000 – 25, 000 CAD per annum.
Advanced Diploma: 10,000 – 15,000 CAD per annum.
Diploma: 10,000 – 15, 000 CAD per annum.
Living Expenses:
The living expenses range from CDN $ 7,000-11,000 per year. The expenses are high in large cities like Vancouver and Montreal. Average cost of accommodation in Canada is about CDN $ 410
Scholarships
Students considering Canada are suggested to start the application procedure eight to twelve months earlier to the intake. Scholarship deadlines vary amongst institutions. Visa
Student visa is called as ‘Study Permit’
Study Permit is issued by CIC (Citizenship & Immigration Canada)
For courses less than 6 months Study Permit is not required
Study permit is for course duration + 90 days
